Using Next-Generation Firewalls to Restore Application Visibility and Control

For nearly two decades, the firewall has been an essential tool for protecting the boundaries of virtually every enterprise network from unauthorized access to confidential business information and network resources.

But in recent years, changes in network traffic, applications and threats have reduced the effectiveness of the traditional firewall. Internet savvy employees are using a new generation of Internet applications that hop from port to port, tunnel other applications or are encrypted with SSL – all as a means of bypassing the firewall and other security controls.

External attackers are aware of this new class of application and are targeting them with complex threats that go undetected, compromising sensitive data and wreaking havoc on network performance and productivity.

This webcast features Greg Young, Gartner Security Research Vice President, who will discuss the following subjects:
  • Changes in the application and threat landscape
  • The problems these changes introduce
  • How to address these problems and the benefits therein

Also featured in this webcast is Steve Mullaney of Palo Alto Networks, who will discuss how customers are using Palo Alto Networks’ next-generation firewalls to restore visibility and control over applications, users and content.
