Application Command Center
The value of identifying exactly which applications are traversing the network is amplified by Application Command Center (ACC), a powerful visualization tool that summarizes current network activity in a straightforward, easy to understand manner. An integral component of both Panorama and the device web-interface, ACC presents the administrator with a wealth of information using application names and traditional network security terminology, as opposed to cryptic, hard to interpret threat-oriented terminology. Using the drop down menus, the ACC filters can be modified in the following ways:
- Time frames ranging from 15 minutes to 30 days.
- The number of applications listed, ranging from 10 to 100.
- Method of sorting is selectable by sessions, bytes or threats.
- Customer definable, based on application, source or destination IP address.
ACC allows an administrator to quickly assess the current network activity without having to use a “secret decoder ring” to determine which applications are traversing the network.
While the top level ACC view provides a comprehensive summary of traffic flowing across the network, a click of the mouse enables visibility into additional application details such as:
- Commonly used ports, evasive characteristics, ability to transmit malware, and risk level.
- Heaviest users based upon their user identity in Active Directory as well as their IP address.
- Most common source/destination countries.
- Top threats carried by the application and security rules in use.
Armed with the visibility into which applications are traversing the network, administrators can implement traditional firewall-based security policies.

"After deploying Palo Alto Networks’ PA-4000 Series, we were able to not only see which applications were on our network, but we were also able to understand the benefits and risks associated with them, allowing the enforcement of specific policies appropriate to our needs."
