We face an unprecedented amount of change for industrial control systems/operational technology (ICS/OT) as IT, OT and AI all converge. This is an inflection point that supercharges Industry 4.0 initiatives, but also creates new cyber security risks and operational challenges across people, processes and technology.

The escalating industrial cyber threat landscape is putting the livelihood and well-being of nations and economies at risk. [Unit 42 research](https://start.paloaltonetworks.com/unit-42-network-threat-trends-report-malware-2023.html) produced earlier this year found that manufacturing and critical infrastructure sectors are facing three times more threats than other industries. Industrial organizations need to become cyber resilient to address this increasingly sophisticated threat landscape. We must build cyber resilience through IT-OT security convergence that considers the entire IT-OT attack lifecycle.

Further analysis of this research in a [just-published report](https://www.paloaltonetworks.com/resources/whitepapers/ot-security-insights-secure-ot-it-convergence-to-keep-the-production-lines-working?ts=markdown) found that, while most industrial organization cybersecurity teams were doing a fair job of stopping breaches (with about 44% of compromised devices recovered within one hour), there is clearly room for improvement. Some 68% of devices were recovered within one day, however, 10% of compromised devices remained hacked for more than one month.
