Transmed enhances security posture, increases efficiency, and enables business growth with Cortex AI-driven SOC automation

SUMMARY

Transmed is one of the leading fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) organisations across Europe, Middle East, and Africa. Established in 1943, it provides end-to-end distribution for a broad portfolio of household, personal care, and food brands from renowned global suppliers and partners including Procter & Gamble, Mars, Mondelez, Danone, Kellogg’s, Clorox, and Lipton. Transmed also distributes its own portfolio of private-label brands – which it manufactures in the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Lebanon – including Leo’s, Halabi, and Earth Goods.

Integrating Cortex XSIAM and Unit 42 Managed XSIAM from Palo Alto Networks has empowered Transmed to establish a 24/7 AI-driven SOC without the operational burden of scaling an internal team, maximising its proactive and automated defence model.

These cutting-edge technologies identify and neutralise threats in real time, protecting sensitive data, ensuring operational integrity, and maintaining trust among Transmed’s customers, suppliers, and partners, supporting and enabling business operations and supply chain continuity.

CHALLENGE

Time for security transformation at Transmed

Transmed has distributed world-leading FMCG brands for over 83 years. Its operation integrates a 24/7 ecosystem of supply chain and logistics infrastructure, spanning more than 60 offices, factories, warehouses, and distribution centres across 14 countries.

Until recently, however, Transmed had sub-optimal visibility into holistic security cases and issues across its operations. Multiple tools, endless issues, and non-integrated processes made it harder to proactively identify real threats and respond with agility and speed. Transmed needed to:

  • Protect 24/7 operations: Reduce the risk of cyberattack and ensure its operations and systems operate at peak availability.
  • Increase visibility: Replace the fragmented approach that was creating overwhelming noise, obscuring critical threats, and slowing down response.
  • Optimise efficiency: Automate response to free analysts to focus on strategic security issues.
  • A single source of truth powered by AI

Transmed turned to Palo Alto Networks. “The partnership is about far more than just defence,” explains Dr Mourad. “It is about creating a resilient foundation that allows our operations and teams to focus on delivering value to our customers and suppliers, supported by an AI-driven security infrastructure that learns and adapts in real-time. Their best-of-breed platform gives us native EDR, XDR, and AI-powered security in one proven ecosystem. They also understood from the start exactly what we were aiming to achieve and how to deliver it.”

One connected security platform – comprising Cortex XSIAM and Unit 42 Managed Detection and Response (MDR) – gives Transmed a unified security experience powered by real-time AI, advanced analytics, and automation, where all data and issues converge into a single source of truth.

Cortex XSIAM stood out when Transmed was evaluating solutions. According to Abbas Noureddine, IT Security Lead at Transmed: “It was superior because it eliminates the limits of legacy SIEM by unifying SIEM, SOAR, and XDR capabilities on a single platform. The onboarding was efficient, from edge devices to servers to implementing playbooks – it was all seamless.”

Everything is protected in a proactive, highly resilient environment. “We now have the ability to see inside every threat – where it originates and which systems it touches,” says Abbas.

  • Supports continuous supply chain delivery

The Palo Alto Networks Professional Services team helped Transmed deploy the platform in just four months. By simplifying and streamlining security in one platform, Transmed can now see and act on threats more quickly.

Approximately 70GB of data is collected and ingested each day from network security firewalls, more than 1,600 devices, and other systems. Unit 42 MDR combines 24/7 monitoring, response, and proactive threat hunting with Cortex advanced AI and Unit 42 Threat Intelligence. Combined with a platform-native approach, it helps Transmed detect and resolve threats faster while simplifying security operations.

“We looked for a global leader in cybersecurity to help us proactively identify and neutralise threats in real time. Unlike most vendors, Palo Alto Networks gives us threat detection and resolution in one connected system. We’re juggling fewer vendors now and trust Unit 42 MDR to monitor everything,” comments Tony Bchara, Head of IT Demand and Portfolio Management at Transmed.

Advanced capabilities lead to improved security posutre

  • Maximises security visibility

Transmed now has 360-degree visibility into threats, issues, and cases. This allows the organisation to quickly identify and stop malicious activity most likely to impact its operations. In just four months, Transmed has gone from limited visibility of mean time to detect (MTTD) and mean time to respond (MTTR) to a centralised platform where all issues are closed through automation.

“In the past, our team struggled to ensure that every asset was protected; now, we have the confidence that every single device is scrutinised 24/7. Professional Services has been instrumental in this success, working collaboratively with Transmed to create value from the platform faster,” says Abbas.

  • Increases efficiency by 40%

By channelling security monitoring through Unit 42 MDR experts, Transmed has increased security efficiency by 40%. This gives the team more time to focus on strategic security services and projects, such as modelling security for new business acquisitions.

70% of all issues are resolved by automation through three playbooks, and Unit 42 further reduces alert fatigue among the Transmed team so they can focus on more strategic initiatives. The team estimates they are saving the equivalent of three full-time employees annually with Cortex XSIAM and Unit 42 Managed XSIAM. “We’ve removed so much of the manual heavy lifting associated with security. Less time is spent staring at false positive issues and security screens, which has really energised and motivated our team to focus on what matters most to our business,” comments Dr Mourad.

  • Optimises compliance and client confidence

“The Palo Alto Networks platformization strategy sends a strong message to our employees, customers, suppliers, and partners that Transmed runs a resilient and forward-thinking business and supply chain operation,” explains Mazen Damiani, Chief Operations Officer at Transmed.

Unified security safeguards Transmed’s operations, data, and reputation. “The partnership with Palo Alto Networks is another attestation of the deliberate efforts we are putting into our security posture,” says Abbas. Furthermore, the platformization strategy directly supports Transmed’s ISO certification efforts by providing rigorous, verifiable security controls and comprehensive audit trails necessary for ongoing compliance.

This is just the start of the partnership between Transmed and Palo Alto Networks. Looking ahead, Transmed is evaluating the network security platform, the use of Cortex AgentiXTM to plan and carry out complex agentic workflows, while continuing its journey toward a zero trust architecture. “Now that the foundation is there, we can build on it to improve our proactive posture,” concludes Dr Mourad.
